Verdict
A personal chat client over model APIs you pay for directly is a real, cheap build. What can't be replicated is the actual subscription: frontier model access from Google specifically, plus deep integration with Gmail, Docs, and Drive that only Google's own product can offer.

Can I import my Gemini conversation history?
Google's data export tools include your Gemini activity, and that export gives you a record of past conversations, but it doesn't import cleanly into a live, continuing thread in a different tool.
Will it work on my phone?
As a responsive web page, yes, if hosted somewhere reachable. There's no native app and no integration with your phone's Google apps.
What does it cost to run?
Hosting is a few dollars a month; API usage is metered per token and can land above or below the flat subscription price depending on how much you actually chat — the built-in cost tracker shows you which.
What's the one thing that doesn't survive the rebuild?
