Verdict
An infinitely nestable outline where any line can be a task, a note, or a folded sub-list — Taskade's actual core interface, closer to Workflowy's outlining model than a traditional task list — is a genuine one-sitting build. What doesn't survive: Taskade's AI agents that can autonomously execute steps in a workflow, and its real-time multiplayer editing.

Implement a single continuous outline per document: each line is a node with optional children, foldable and unfoldable, with keyboard-first editing — Tab to indent a line under the previous one, Shift+Tab to outdent, Enter to create a sibling line, a shortcut to fold or unfold the current line's children. Let any line be marked as a task with a checkbox, toggling strikes it through when checked, or stay as a plain outline node — no separate 'task mode', tasks and notes live in the same outline. Support a zoom-in view: click a line to see just that line and its children as a focused sub-document, then zoom back out. Add full-text search across the whole outline, jumping directly to and expanding the matching line's location. Do not build AI agents that execute workflow steps, real-time multiplayer editing, or cross-device sync — those are out of scope; this is a single-user, single-device outlining tool, nothing more. A nestable outline with checkboxes is a bounded, buildable UI project; AI agents that can actually execute steps in a workflow reliably, plus real-time collaboration, are the much harder ongoing engineering.
Questions
Is this a task list or a notes app?
Both at once, deliberately — any line in the outline can be a checkbox task or plain text, with no separate mode to switch between, which is closer to Taskade's actual model than a dedicated task list.
Does it have AI agents that complete tasks for me?
No — that's a real, separate feature Taskade has built, involving reliably executing workflow steps autonomously, which is out of scope here.
Can I focus on just one branch of the outline?
Yes — clicking a line zooms into it as a focused sub-document showing just that line and its children, then you zoom back out to the full outline.
What does it cost to run?
Nothing — it's a local app with no backend, so there's no hosting cost or subscription.
