Verdict

A template-based graphics generator — HTML/CSS templates rendered to PNG, background removal via a local open model, brand colors and fonts applied automatically — is a real weekend build. What doesn't come with it is Adobe's actual product: licensed stock assets, video and PDF tooling, and deep integration with the rest of Creative Cloud.

Exhibit B — What you lose

Exhibit A — The prompt

Received on30.07.2026
Build a template-based graphics generator: a small library of HTML/CSS templates for common formats (a square social post, a story size, a header banner, a thumbnail, a quote card), each rendered to a PNG at exact pixel dimensions using a headless browser screenshot. Build a page with a template picker, one input per text field, an image drop zone, and a live preview that renders the same template. Run background removal on uploaded photos with a local open-source model — no paid API needed for this. Load brand settings (two fonts, a handful of colors, a logo) from one config file that every template reads from automatically. Save each export alongside a small sidecar file recording the field values used, so any graphic can be reopened and re-rendered later.

Do not build video or PDF tooling, or a stock-asset library — Adobe's licensed content library is the actual product, and this build assumes you bring your own images.

Opening prefills the prompt — press enter to run it.

Exhibit B — What you lose

  • B.2 video and PDF editing tools
  • B.3 deep Creative Cloud integration
  • B.4 mobile apps
  • B.5 broad licensing coverage for commercial use

Prior art

Exhibit C — Why people still pay: licensed assets/ecosystem

The content and export ecosystem is already there — templates, stock assets, and format coverage across a dozen use cases — people pay for that breadth, not for the ability to overlay text on an image.

Questions

Can I bring in my existing Adobe Express designs?

Not directly — Adobe Express doesn't export to an editable format this build can read, only flattened images. A flattened export works as a reference to rebuild from, not an import.

Will it work on my phone?

Not well — filling in a template works in a phone browser, but precise text and image placement is a desktop task, and there's no dedicated mobile app here.

What does it cost to run?

Just hosting for the small web app, typically a few dollars a month or free on a static-friendly host — background removal runs locally with no API cost.

What's the one thing that doesn't survive the rebuild?

The licensed asset library. Adobe Express bundles stock photos, icons, and fonts already cleared for commercial use; this build hands you empty templates and your own images, with none of that licensing coverage.
