Verdict

A content-brief generator — pull top-ranking pages for a keyword, summarize their structure, draft a brief, score your draft against it — is a real one-sitting build wrapping a SERP API and an LLM. What doesn't come with it is Frase's actual workflow: a polished editor, AI-search visibility tracking, and team reporting built around that same brief.

Exhibit B — What you lose

Exhibit A — The prompt

Received on30.07.2026
Build a content-brief generator: given a keyword, fetch the top-ranking pages from a real SERP API (do not scrape Google directly), extract each page's title, heading outline, word count, and any questions it answers. Send that aggregate to an LLM API to produce a brief — a suggested title and angle, a target outline, questions to cover, terms competitors use, and a target word-count range — written to a plain Markdown file. Add a second command that scores an existing draft against a brief: which terms and questions are covered or missing, as a plain percentage. Cache fetched pages locally so re-running on the same keyword costs nothing extra.

Do not build an editor UI, rank tracking, or team workflows — briefs and drafts are Markdown files, written in whatever editor you already use, and that's the honest trade against Frase's dedicated writing environment.

Opening prefills the prompt — press enter to run it.

Exhibit B — What you lose

  • B.1 a dedicated editor UI built around the brief
  • B.2 AI-search visibility tracking
  • B.3 team workflows and reporting
  • B.4 ongoing SERP-data pipeline maintenance

Prior art

Exhibit C — Why people still pay: data access/workflow/model wrapper

Writers need a repeatable research-to-editor workflow, not a folder of scraped pages — people pay for that workflow being maintained and polished, not for the ability to fetch search results.

Questions

Can I import my existing Frase briefs?

Not automatically — Frase doesn't offer a structured export of past briefs. Past research stays in Frase; this build starts generating its own briefs going forward.

Will it work on my phone?

No — this is a command-line tool meant to run on a computer, and writing from generated briefs is realistically a desktop workflow.

What does it cost to run?

A SERP API call plus an LLM call per brief, typically a small amount each — cheap enough that occasional use costs a fraction of the subscription.

What's the one thing that doesn't survive the rebuild?

AI-search visibility tracking. Frase tracks how content shows up in AI-generated answers, not just traditional search results — that's a maintained, ongoing data pipeline this build doesn't attempt.
