A registered agent is a person or company with a physical address in the state, available during business hours, legally designated to receive service of process. It is not a software category at all — it is an address and an obligation. The only thing worth building around it is the handling of what arrives, which matters because these documents come with deadlines that start running on delivery.

Stack: a local application, SQLite, one command. The README must say that response deadlines are jurisdiction-specific, that the deadline rules are yours to configure from your own advice, and that this is a tracker rather than advice.
Item record: received date (the date it arrived at the agent, not the date you read it — that distinction is the whole reason for the tool), sender, authority, document type, entity it concerns, a scan, and a free-text summary.
Deadline rules you configure per document type: a number of days from receipt, counted in calendar or business days, from a rule file you fill in. Ship it empty with a documented shape.
On logging an item, compute the response deadline and create escalating reminders that do not stop until the item is closed with a response recorded. A service-of-process item should be visually distinct from a routine annual notice and should require an explicit acknowledgement that it has been read.
Status: received, acknowledged, action taken, closed — each with a date and a note. Overdue items stay permanently marked as having been late.
Search across summaries and metadata, and a per-entity view of everything received, printable, because that history is what an accountant or a lawyer asks for.
Retention: keep scans for a configurable period with deletion logged. Official correspondence is exactly the category people either delete too early or keep forever without knowing why.
Write tests for business-day counting across weekends and a configured holiday, for reminders escalating from the received date rather than the logged date, and for the overdue marker surviving closure.

Because the alternative is your own address on a public register and someone present at it all day, and because missing service of process can produce a default judgment against you.
Questions
Why count deadlines from receipt rather than from when I read it?
Because that is how the law counts. A summons served on your agent starts the clock that day whether or not the email reached you, and building the tracker around the wrong date defeats its only purpose.
Can I be my own registered agent?
In most states yes, if you have a physical street address there and are present during business hours. The practical costs are that the address becomes public record and that you must actually be there — which is why the service exists.
What happens if service of process is missed?
The case can proceed without you and a default judgment can be entered. It is the one category of mail where a week of inattention is genuinely expensive, which is why this build treats it differently from everything else.
Why is this entry's price marked low confidence?
