Can a prompt replace SurveyMonkey?
Forms & surveys — forms, surveys and lead capture
Exhibit tracking slip
Verdict
A form that stores responses reliably and computes basic summary statistics — averages, response-rate breakdowns, and a real NPS score — is a real weekend build. What doesn't survive: SurveyMonkey's benchmark data comparing your results against millions of other surveys, its large template library, and enterprise-grade branching logic.
Exhibit A — The prompt
Received on31.07.2026Build a form and survey tool that, beyond basic field types, correctly computes a Net Promoter Score and simple rating averages — the specific calculation, not just raw response storage. Use Next.js/TypeScript with SQLite and Drizzle ORM. Support short text, long text, single-select, multi-select, and a 0-10 NPS-style rating field type in the form builder. Publish each form at a stable slug with server-side validation, honeypot spam protection, and rate limiting. Store responses and, on the results page, compute: response counts, per-question averages for numeric/rating fields, and a correctly calculated NPS score — percentage of promoters (9-10) minus percentage of detractors (0-6) — for any NPS-type question. Get this calculation right, since a wrong NPS number is worse than no number. Add CSV export and a simple one-level conditional branch (if the answer to Q2 is X, show Q4, else skip to Q5). Send the form owner a notification on new submissions via a transactional email provider, without putting submitted values in application logs. Do not build a template marketplace, industry benchmark comparisons, or multi-level branching logic — those are out of scope; this is a single-owner form tool with correct scoring math, not a research platform. Needs a domain and a transactional email provider for notifications; no other external service required.
Opening prefills the prompt — press enter to run it.
Exhibit B — What you lose
- B.1 industry benchmark comparisons
- B.2 large template library
- B.3 advanced skip-logic branching
- B.4 enterprise governance and multi-brand workspaces
Prior art
Exhibit C — Why people still pay: integrations, deliverability, and workflow depth
A form is trivial; knowing whether your NPS of 42 is good requires someone else's aggregated data across millions of other surveys, which a personal build can never have.
Questions
Is my NPS score comparable to SurveyMonkey's benchmark data?
The calculation itself is the same standard formula, but SurveyMonkey's benchmarks compare you against millions of other surveys — this build has no comparison data, just your own honest number.
How complex can the branching logic get?
Only one level — skip to a question based on one prior answer. Multi-level branching logic is real complexity this build intentionally doesn't take on.
Can I start from a template library like SurveyMonkey's?
No pre-built templates here — you're building each form's questions from scratch, which is slower for common survey types but avoids maintaining a template library.
What does it cost to run?
A domain plus a transactional email provider's free tier for notifications — typically nothing beyond what you already pay for the domain.
