Verdict
A personal meeting recorder — capture your own system and mic audio, transcribe locally, summarize with an LLM, mark and clip highlights — is a real weekend build. What doesn't come with it is a bot that joins meetings on your behalf, a shared team library, and CRM integrations that push notes where a sales or success team actually works.

Received on30.07.2026Build a personal meeting recorder: a simple start/stop control that captures your system audio and microphone together, locally, with no bot joining the call on your behalf. On stop, transcribe the recording with a local Whisper model (or a hosted Whisper API if a key is present), then send the transcript to an LLM for a short summary and action items, saving the summary, transcript, and audio together in a dated folder. While recording, support a hotkey that drops a highlight marker; after the call, turn each marker into a short clip cut a fixed number of seconds around it. Build a local library page listing past meetings with full-text search across every transcript, and inline playback of recordings and clips.
Do not build a bot that auto-joins Zoom or Meet, CRM sync, or a shared team library — this records only what you can locally hear, for yourself. Questions
Can I import my existing tl;dv recordings?
tl;dv lets you download your recordings and transcripts individually, and those work fine as source files for this build's library — just drop them into the same folder structure and re-index.
Will it work on my phone?
The library page for browsing past meetings works in a phone browser, but recording itself is tied to your computer's own audio, so this is a desktop tool for the actual capture.
What does it cost to run?
Nothing if you stay fully local with a local Whisper model; using a hosted transcription or summary API costs a small amount per meeting.
What's the one thing that doesn't survive the rebuild?
A bot joining meetings for you. tl;dv can record a call you're not even actively running yourself; this build only ever captures what's playing through your own machine while you remember to hit start.
